While it may seem too early to start thinking about summer, many brides and grooms who are saving the date for June, July, or August are using this time to finalize some of the last-minute details.
As a Kalamazoo wedding venue, Henderson Castle has worked with countless couples to help them make their day a memorable event. Continue reading to learn our tips for planning a summer wedding.
Help guests escape the heat with air-conditioned tent rentals, bottles of water, and cold refreshments. For example, it’s a good idea to place bottled water near the dance floor so your guests can stay cool and hydrated. If you are planning on having an outdoor wedding venue, it may be a good idea to time your ceremony for late afternoon or early evening. That way, you and your guests will be able to avoid the hottest part of the day when the sun is at its highest.
If you are planning a destination wedding, you may want to consider having it at a romantic bed and breakfast like Henderson Castle. If you have guests coming in from out of town, nothing will beat the convenience of being able to stay at the local bed and breakfast where you’ll be having your wedding. When planning a summer wedding, you’ll want to send out invitations as soon as possible before your loved ones start planning their vacations.
One of the best (and worst) parts of planning an outdoor summer wedding is the sun. Make sure you put on plenty of sunscreen before going outside. It’s also a nice gesture to provide sun block wipes for your guests at the wedding reception venue. The last thing you want is to start your honeymoon with sunburn. Plan ahead and make sure you and your guests are protected from UV rays.
The temperature on the day of your outdoor wedding could easily hover in the 80s. To stay cool, we recommend choosing a dress or tux that has light breathable fabric. For example, an airy wedding dress made of silk will be much cooler than a heavy satin ball gown. Remember that for the reception, you could also change into a dress better suited for dancing in the summer heat. If you’re the groom, a light gray or beige tux won’t absorb as much heat as traditional black.
If your wedding venue will be providing the gourmet food for the big day, you’ll want to ask about seasonal menu options. For example, many of the couples we work with choose grilled entrées and other summer treats. Stay away from heavy foods and ask if your venue will be using local fresh produce for you and your guests.
