Staying at Henderson Castle during the warm months in Michigan opens up a myriad of opportunities for ways you can spend your day. While some days you may want to simply explore our Historic Bed and Breakfast in Kalamazoo, other days could be an adventure day. That’s why we’ve partnered up with HGF Corporation to offer Bicycle Rentals to our guests.
When bicycling for the first time, we want you to have a safe, fun experience. Visit our Bicycling Tips for a Kalamazoo Excursion page for safety tips, and our Bike Rental Information page for details on how to reserve your bicycle.
In and around Kalamazoo Michigan are a host of trails and parks that you can access. Downtown Kalamazoo is only 1.1 miles away by bicycle from Henderson Castle, and you can visit Bronson Park just a few blocks from the heart of the city. While you’re in town, make your way down South Kalamazoo Mall, and you may find a little shop that distracts you for hours.
Downtown Kalamazoo hosts the Kalamazoo Farmer’s Market on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, and finding a local bite to eat can make your day blossom. You may even spy one of our chefs from H Prime Chophouse hunting for local ingredients.
The Kal-Haven Trail is a gem of southwestern Michigan, it is a converted railway system that runs between Kalamazoo and South Haven. Originally this trail was only a thoroughfare from Kalamazoo to South Haven but has recently been expanded to reach downtown Kalamazoo. If you choose to bicycle part or all of this crushed-limestone trail, keep an eye out for the shy White Tail Deer that roam the woods.
The Kalamazoo River Valley Trail is the newest Kalamazoo County park. The trail is free to use and has a paved-asphalt surface that is 10-feet wide. You can take this multi-purpose trail from 10th street to Westnedge Avenue, or on any of the other 22 miles of the completed length.
Kalamazoo County parks and trails close at sunset and we ask that bicycles be returned to Henderson Castle by 8pm. However, if you are looking for a fun way to cap off your evening, check out the event calendar for Arcadia Creek Festival Place, this 2-acre park in the central city area of Kalamazoo has a permanent bandshell landscape art and lighting to make your evening sparkle. Or you could relax in your historic and unique Bed and Breakfast room and find your way to our Spirits Lounge, which opens for the evening at 4:00pm.
