Is this your first time at a spa? Don’t worry. The entire spa experience is oriented around making sure you feel relaxed, comfortable, and rejuvenated.
At a spa, you can expect to see treatments such as massages, facials, sugar scrubs, mud wraps, aromatherapy, and more.
Check with the day spa ahead of time to see if you’ll need to bring anything. While most spas provide robes and towels for their guests, it doesn’t hurt to check. If you plan on making use of the spa’s hot tub or pool, you’ll want to make sure you pack a swim suit and flip flops for walking around wet areas. If you’ll be spending time outside, pack some sunscreen. You’ll get the most out of your spa day by being prepared. Also, give yourself plenty of time to get to the beauty spa so you don’t feel rushed.
A common question we get is whether or not guests are expected to undress completely for massages and other full body treatments. Ideally, you’ll want to take off all your clothes before putting on your robe. However, staff will understand if you don’t feel comfortable. You should only undress to the extent you feel comfortable. For example, some guests may prefer to wear a swim suit during their massage or full body scrub. If you would prefer a female or male massage therapist, let the spa know before your appointment so they can make the accommodation. During your professional massage, be sure to let the therapist know if they are massaging too hard or too light.
Refrain from indulging in coffee the day of your appointment. It will be easier to relax if you don’t have caffeine in your system. Also, avoid drinking alcohol or eating a heavy meal before coming to the spa. We recommend eating a small meal before you arrive and packing a light snack in your bag for later, such as fruit.
When you first come to a spa, you’ll be asked to fill out a medical history form. The form will ask you questions about any medical or skin conditions you might have. This information is used to help staff determine what treatments are suitable for you based on your health. For example, guests with heart conditions may want to avoid saunas and hot tubs. Check with your doctor beforehand.
The whole point of a day at the spa is to unwind and relax. This can be hard to do if you’re constantly checking your phone for messages from work or are having a phone conversation. Talking on your cell phone is also considered disrespectful and is disruptive to other guests at the spa. For the best spa experience, leave your cell phone at home.
Remember that other guests have come to the spa for the same reason as you—to relax. Unfortunately, all it takes is one person to spoil the spa atmosphere. Don’t be that person. If you have to talk on your cell phone, do it outside and speak in hushed tones. Otherwise, you may be asked to leave if you are being too disruptive. You’ll also want to be respectful of staff by showing up on time for scheduled appointment and spa treatments.
